I've heard rumors about Hisense and Sharp. Can someone tell me if Hisense bought Sharp? And are they using the Sharp name to get noticed in the US? Any clear answers would be a big help! Thanks.
No. Hisense did not buy Sharp. Rather, the former acquired the right to use the Sharp brand name to sell TV units in the USA in 2015. Later, in 2016, Foxconn took Sharp and witnessed success in the market. In 2017, Sharp sued Hisenese as the brand license was misused. In the consequent year, Sharp dropped the lawsuit and gained its license back in the year 2019. Since then, Sharp has manufactured Sharp TVs while Hisense has been restricted from using the Sharp brand name. Sharp TV lineups have increased while the company has focused on improving the feature set of the TV.
